KUANTAN: Students are set to play a bigger role in ensuring rivers in our country are clean and not polluted.

Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) director-general Datuk Ahmad Husaini Sulaiman feels the "Love Our Rivers Campaign" launched by the department in 1993 would be a bigger success with the inclusion of students.

He said DID had underlined a few measures as part of its effort to gain co-operation from students, teachers and their schools.

"We will train selected teachers on the importance of maintaining the cleanliness of rivers and later relay the information to their students.

"We will also propose to the Environment Lovers Club in schools to organise more 'love your rivers' activities," he said at the River Ranger "Training of Trainers" programme here yesterday.
