GEC hosted a half-day forum featuring multiple stakeholders – both local and regional to share success stories of the GEC’s journey with them over the past 25 years and present some of their aspirations for the coming decades.

The forum included two panel sessions:

1. Multi-stakeholder Approach to Address the ASEAN Transboundary Haze Challenge 

This session highlighted work of multiple stakeholders in addressing the most serious regional environmental problem in ASEAN, the transboundary haze. The panel session was moderated by Professor Tan Sri Dr Zakri, GEC’s Advisory Council Member.

2. Transforming Environment Management and Social Benefit through Community-based Approach

This session showcased key experiences by GEC in partnership with local communities in transforming landscapes and community livelihood.  The panel session was moderated by Dato' Lim Chow Hock, GEC’s Advisory Council Member.

Unveiling GEC's 2050 Vision & Strategy 

Building on GEC’s 25 years track record, GEC’s 2050 Vision & Strategy is developed as guiding principles for future directions towards achieving communities who are empowered and people are living in harmony with the environment while our nature resources are sustainably managed. As the first stage of achieving the 2050 Vision, GEC has set a strategy with key targets for 2030. Targets include expanding its forest and river care programmes across the ASEAN region and building its peatland programme at the international level in partnership with like-minded organisations. Its cross-cutting targets include: 

1. operate holistic environmental education programmes; 
2. actively contribute to the SDGs by 2030; and 
3. ensure that GEC operations are carbon and biodiversity positive as well as waste and water neutral by 2030.

Launching GEC Community Network

GCN otherwise known by its Malay moniker “Jaringan Komuniti Global Environment Centre” – in short, JKGEC, is established to provide a platform that unites both existing and future community partners of GEC. This platform will foster the sharing of experience, lessons learnt and strengthen the capacity of these communities for environmental stewardship and organisation’s sustainability. 

Exhibition Visit

GEC Programme teams namely (Forest & Coastal Programme, Peatland Programme and River Care Programme) took the opportunity to highlight their work and the community-based products from their community partners at the GEC exhibition area.
