POSITION - PROGRAMME OFFICER (PEATLAND PROGRAMME) (Download)
Duty Station: Petaling Jaya, Selangor and/or Pekan, Pahang
Responsibilities:
- Involvement in the implementation of a range of existing projects
- Undertaking project activities such as studies, awareness programmes, networking and information exchange
- Providing input to technical and management reports
- Working with partner agencies at local level (local government, private sector, Civil Society Organisations, and indigenous people and local community groups)
- Support community development and empowerment
- Working with partner agencies in Malaysia and overseas
- Working on aspects of field projects in Malaysia and overseas
- Input to development of new projects and activities
- Contribute to other elements of the Peatland Programme as appropriate
Requirements:
- Degree in Environmental or Natural Resource Management
- Fluent in English and Malay with good writing skills
- Experienced in computer and basic software skills – e.g. Microsoft office
- Minimum 2-5 years relevant working experience
- Experience in forest, natural resources or peatland management, and biodiversity or climate change issues
- Experience in communication with multi-stakeholder
- Experience in working with indigenous community
- Experience in multidisciplinary teams an advantage
- Experience in awareness and information exchange
- Willingness to work with indigenous communities
- Possess own car and be willing to travel and/or re-station at Pekan, Pahang

POSITION - SENIOR COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER (OUTREACH AND PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMME) (Download)
Duty Station: Petaling Jaya, Selangor
Responsibilities:
- In charge of GEC communications, PR and media linkages and partnerships.
- Help to develop collaboration with national and regional media outlets i.e. media relations (print, electronic and social media).
- Assist in developing content for social media and website, story development, marketing communications and promotion.
- Assist in fundraising activities, including the development of sales and marketing of GEC merchandise and community products programmes
- Help to organise awareness campaigns, events or workshops.
- Support information exchange and networking activities of different programmes including:
- Supporting implementation of projects related to networking and information exchange; environmental management and community involvement.
- Copy writing
- Maintaining library and photo reference collections
- Facilitating electronic discussion groups
Requirements:
- Degree or diploma in public relations or communications or relevant field
- Minimum 5 years relevant working experience
- Fluent in English & Bahasa Melayu with good writing skills; other relevant languages an advantage.
- High degree of competency in Microsoft suite of programs and internet use
- Working experience in communication, media and outreach would be an advantage.
- Experience with updating website and graphic design/image editing using Adobe is helpful.
- Knowledge of or interest in environmental issues would be an advantage
- Experience in information exchange, networking and database.
- Self-motivated and able to work both independently and in team
- Pleasant personality with good public relation skills.

POSITION - PROGRAMME OFFICER (RIVER CARE PROGRAMME) (Download)
Duty Station: Ipoh, Perak
Responsibilities:
To support the implementation of GEC’s RIVER CARE project in Ipoh.
- Support the project implementation mainly within Upper Kinta Basin, Perak
- To support/conduct study on water resource management [water quality, biodiversity, alternative water supply, resource (natural and man-made) management] and stakeholder engagement
- Support the day to day implement priority activities with Orang Asli, sub-urban and urban community engagement as well community-based key resource and pollution mitigation
- Support to monitor mitigation on slope erosion as well as forest/river restoration work
- Able to support and organise environmental education and awareness programme
- Support project progress monitoring and evaluation
Requirements:
- Self-motivated and able to work both independently and in teams.
- Minimum Diploma or equivalent working experience in Environmental or Natural Resource Management. Degree in the environment management and working experience in an advantage.
- Experience on Environmental Management: river basin, Wetland, Erosion Control, Slope Management, Strengthening Connectivity to enhance River Corridors and Riverine Ecosystems as well community engagement is an advantage.
- Fluent in English and Malay with good writing and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel and independent at site.
- Driving license and own transport is an advantage.
- Pleasant personality.
- Willing to be stationed at GEC’s Ipoh Office.
