Who We Are

The Global Environment Centre was established in 1998 to work on environmental issues of global importance. The Centre is registered in Malaysia as a non-profit organisation (Reg. no. 473058-T) but works regionally and internationally both directly and through many partners. It supports information exchange and capacity building as well as undertakes strategic projects particularly in developing countries. GEC works in partnership with other like-minded agencies worldwide.

Our Overall Objectives

Specific Objectives of our four Programmes

River Care Programme: To promote integrated management of rivers and water resources with a focus on community participation, biodiversity conservation and nature-based solutions.
Forest and Coastal Programme: Promote and support the protection, integrated management and sustainable use of forests and coastal resources with participatory approach to conserve biodiversity and mitigate climate change.
Peatland Programme: To enable sustainable peatland conservation and use through multi-stakeholder partnerships in ecosystem restoration and climate change mitigation. 
Outreach and Partnership Programme: To enhance awareness, capacity and action as well as promote sustainable partnerships between different organisations and sectors to safeguard the environment.
