Sustainable Land Management in Sensitive Areas (Peatland)

Unsustainable agriculture practices on cultivated peatlands (a type of ecosystem) may cause peat degradation leading to irreversible drying (peatlands in its natural condition is wet), becoming prone to forest fire and haze as well as emitting high amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

The Department of Agriculture (DOA) realises the importance of a comprehensive guideline on sustainable agriculture practices on peatland and is committed to develop sustainable management of peatlands while optimising farmers’ income through the Malaysian Good Agriculture Practice (MyGAP).

Therefore, DOA collaborates with GEC for 18 months to implement the following activities:

Duration: 2022 – 2023
