GEC clinches 2022 Merdeka Award - Environment Category

“On behalf of the Board, management and staff of GEC, I wish to record our heartfelt gratitude for selecting GEC for this prestigious award. We could not have achieved this without our numerous stakeholders and partners who have contributed significantly to this success.

We need the environment for clean water to drink, clear air to breathe and natural resources to sustain us as well as all other life on earth.

Let’s be the agents of change and advocates for the Planet. To respect Mother Earth and transform your actions, organisations and way of life to a more sustainable one. Together, we can achieve more!” - Mr Faizal Parish, GEC Director.

GEC won the Role Model Award for Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) under the “Program Penanaman Pokok Bakau dan Spesies-spesies yang Sesuai di Pesisiran Pantai Negara

The Forest and Coastal Programme of GEC has been rehabilitating degraded mangrove areas in Johor, Perak and Selangor since 2005. We have also been engaging with the local communities by establishing four Sahabat Hutan Bakau at five different sites to protect and rehabilitate mangroves topped with sustainable management and livelihood implementation.

We would like to thank the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources for the Award. We could not have achieved this without the support from our local communities, funders, committed partners and volunteers.
