POSITION - TECHNICAL PROGRAMME OFFICER (FOREST & COASTAL PROGRAMME)
Duty Station: Mersing, Johor
Responsibility:
To lead the implementation of GEC projects on the community-based management of forest, peatland and mangrove ecosystem in Mersing and Johor and Peninsular Malaysia including conservation, rehabilitation, hydrology management, fire prevention and control, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and others are relevant including:
- Providing technical support on best practices on forest, peatland and mangroves management and restoration as well as impact evaluation techniques;
- Implementing ongoing projects on community-based management of forest, peatland and mangrove ecosystem;
- Developing new projects and activities in partnerships with local government agencies, communities and private sectors as well as with other NGOs;
- Managing and guiding a team of project programme officers, as well as support capacity building, knowledge sharing and resource management to ensure the project team is equipped to support GEC’s current and future programme/ initiatives;
- Supporting the measures to empower and enhance livelihood of targeted local communities;
- Developing strategic project implementation plan and support the sustainability of existing community programme;
- Developing linkages and support for collaboration among key stakeholders in the Johor State and Peninsular Malaysia;
- Developing and implementing awareness and education programme for school students, local communities and other stakeholders;
- Providing technical and administrative orientation and oversight of all project activities;
- Preparing and implementing monitoring and evaluation programmes to ensure adequate and timely completion of project activities;
- Monitoring progress toward achieving programme objectives and elaboration of all reports required by the project deliverables; and
- Representing GEC at local and national meetings/conferences/seminars.
Job Requirements:
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimum supervision;
- A degree either in biology, environmental, social science or natural resource management;
- Minimum 3-6 years of relevant working experience involving community development or natural resource management;
- Strong people management and leadership skills, with proven ability to mentor and motive others;
- Prepared to work in field conditions and adaptive to odd working hours
- Pleasant personality, good PR capabilities;
- Fluent in Malay and English; and
- Possess good writing and communication skills.

Duty Station: Mersing, Johor
Responsibilities:
To lead the implementation of GEC projects on the community-based management of forest, peatland and mangrove ecosystems in Mersing, Johor and Peninsular Malaysia including conservation and restoration, hydrology management, prevention of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and development of sustainable livelihood programme based on mangrove forest resources for local community groups and other related including:
- Providing technical support on best practices on forest, peatland and mangrove management and restoration as well as impact evaluation techniques;
- Implementing ongoing projects on community-based management of forest, peatland and mangrove conservation and restoration;
- Managing and coordinating nature-based product development projects linked to sustainable livelihood;
- Working with other organisations to establish a design, technology, product development and vendor strategy;
- Developing new projects and activities in partnerships with local government agencies, communities and private sectors as well as with other NGOs;
- Manage and guide a team of project programme officers, as well as support capacity building, knowledge sharing and resource management to ensure the project team is equipped to support GEC’s current and future programme/ initiatives;

Job Requirements:

- Posesses a Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (product development, forest / peatland/ mangrove / coastal conservation biology, environmental, social science, natural resource management, climate change or programme management);
- Minimum 4-6 years of relevant working experience involving community-based product development or natural resource management;
- Strong people management and leadership skills, with proven ability to mentor and motivate others;
- Prepared to work in field conditions and adaptive to odd working hours;
- Pleasant personality with good PR capabilities;
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, especially within local community and multi-stakeholder contexts;
- Fluent in Malay and English;and
- Possess good writing and communication skills.
