Stop the Haze Campaign

GEC undertakes the initiative to find solutions to avoid peatland forest fire and the haze by working with project partners and networks through APFP - SEApeat project. Funds will be channelled to patrolling of fire-prone peatlands in Southeast Asia, purchase of equipment and supplies to support community fire prevention and control teams, monitoring the activities of forest and oil palm plantations and promoting zero burning. GEC will also be providing regular reports on the haze and fire situation.

The public can help by making a donation to GEC’s “Stop the Haze” Campaign. All contributions to GEC are tax deductible.

GEC is working with project partners in North Selangor and Riau Province (Indonesia) to assist in fire-fighting efforts.

In North Selangor, GEC is supporting local communities from the Sahabat Hutan Gambut Selangor Utara (SHGSU). They are patrolling peatland areas near Raja Musa Forest Reserve to detect and extinguish fires before they get out of hand. They are also working with the Forestry Department and Fire & Rescue Department (BOMBA) to help control fires in the area. In Riau, Indonesia, plans are under way to bring assistance to affected communities, especially in APFP and SEApeat project sites near Dumai where the fires are worst. The efforts will concentrate in related project areas in Momugo, Tanjung Leban, Sepahat and Harapan Jaya villages. GEC is also exploring solutions with other parties to extinguish the fires.
